The Journal of Korean History in East Asia publishes both original papers and reprints of English translations of works originally written in foreign languages (particularly Korean) to improve accessibility of English-speaking audiences to materials previously available only locally.
To enhance readers’ understanding and ability to locate original materials, we retain the original languages of names and key concepts in both the main text and references. We encourage readers to use this information to better identify the identities of individuals, groups, countries and geographical locations, as well as to locate original source materials.
About Romanization Rules
Foreign names are romanized according to the official Romanization system of each respective country. For example:
- Korean: The Revised Romanization of Korean is used.
- Chinese: The Hanyu Pinyin is used.
- Japanese: The Modified Hepburn System is used.
Please note that the traditional McCune-Reischauer Romanization System for Korean is not used in this journal, as its technical diacritical symbols make it difficult to read for general readers. About Symbols Used for Refences
For reference information, we use the following Korean symbolic conventions:
- ｢ 」 indicates the title of an article in a journal, edited volume, or newspaper.
- 『 』indicates the title of a journal, edited volume, or newspaper.
- [ ] indicates the names of authors, translators, or publishers.
